  • Your phone needs to be on Bluetooth while in the car. Don’t place it in pure sight on the dash board, the passenger’s seat or the armrest section.  This only acts to attract the  attention of the would be thug. The only thing that should linger on your dashboard should be your dash-cam.

  • Learn defensive driving tips especially if you drive at night. Learn how to sight something suspicious on the road  like a barricade across the road, broken down car, old lady, somebody lying in the middle of the road and a child trying to stop you. The rule of thumb is : Do not stop…I repeat, DO NOT STOP! Just drive on and keep moving. Call the police or go report at the nearest police station. You  aren’t Red Cross!
  • If a car blocks you on the road, find a space, squeeze through and accelerate. Don’t mind about the car damages, they will be repaired. If you are driving a big car, just drive  through the car blocking you. You can fix a broken headlamp or car  bumper but not your body riddled with bullets or knife cuts. If you think that your car can’t handle this, backup,  turn that car around and drive so fast like a rally driver. Defensive driving saves lives

  • Be always alert. If you see someone or a suspicious car twice, run! If you suspect that you are being tailed, don’t drive home, drive to a petrol station, police station, a motel or a busy packing lot with visibly a lot of people.
  • If you suspect you are being followed but are not sure, attempt some erratic maneuvers. Take an immediate turn as quickly as possible. Continue turning right and left a number of times as you monitor your mirrors. It is not possible for a car that isn’t following you to make such random negotiations.
  • Always have some contacts on your speed dial. Have a friend’s number, a policeman friend’s number, police or Emergency contact. This allows you to call for help, when you need it.
  • Just in case it is evident you are most likely going to lose your valuables, your phone, your bag or your car, do not fight with the attacker. Let the items go, such worldly possessions are easily replaceable but you are not.

Lastly,

Driving is liberating to a woman. It will be great seeing more women drivers on the road. Follow the tips above to gather confidence as a lady driver. We will always be happy to help you out when we can. Let’s also encourage women to ensure  safety of fellow women while on the road.
