Should I buy an Electric Car?

Majority of people presume that electric cars are a new invention. However, this is not true. Did you know that the idea of an electric car was first conceptualized in early 18th century? In fact, the very first electric car was produced in 1828 but it wasn’t received well. It’s production then declined and fizzled off. The idea was once again revived by a Japanese Car Company called Tama. The car could travel up to 200kms on a single charge! Electric cars then later became a reality in the 1990s.

Advantages of Electric Vehicles – EVs

We can not conclusively say that Electric cars are a better option as compared to gasoline or petroleum cars except if we looked at specific areas. Generally, we do agree that  Electric cars are better based on a number of points. Consumer surveys on customer satisfaction especially on Tesla prove this.

EVs have the following advantages over fuel cars

They are friendly to the environment.

Electric cars do not have emissions. They do not emit carbon into the environment. It is an indisputable fact that our environment is slowly being degraded due to air pollution. Temperatures are rising. Going forward, we need to reduce the carbon we put into the air so as to heal the earth and secure the future of mankind.

They drive better.

Single foot driving and regenerative braking make driving Electric Vehicles a lot easier as compared to cars with two or three pedals to worry about and gears to shift. Once you get used to it, driving manual and automatic cars will feel strange. The car doesn’t struggle and heat up. The ride is smooth and quiet. A number of upgrades like navigation and sensors reduce the driver’ strain on the road.

They require less maintenance

There is no hustle and bustle of oil changes, transmission oil changes, leaking head gaskets, worn out spark plugs to change, injectors to adjust,  and worn out timing belts to worry about. Drivers of electric vehicles only worry about tires (which ware out quite fast) and windshield wipers. There is very little brake servicing (though it is needed occasionally). A lot of time at the garage is saved.

No need to stop at the pump

The idea is to leave the house with the car fully charged any time u drive out. If the car is in constant use, one has to charge the car overnight daily. This will ensure you have enough range for your daily travels and some charge remaining for emergencies. Majority of the modern EVs can do over 400 kilometers per single full charge. Someone is trying to develop batteries that can last a lifetime without charging, so the future is bright for electric car lovers.

They are cheaper to drive.

If they can go for that long after a single charge, then electric cars are definitely cheaper to maintain. Electricity is cheaper than fuel. You also save a lot on mandatory service and maintenance schedules that fuel vehicles have to undergo.

In Conclusion,

Electric Vehicles are definitely a better deal. It is true that they can cost a bit more to procure but majority of those costs are recovered in only a few years of use. However, not everyone should be quick to buy EVs. If you need heavy duty machinery and instant torque, then fuel vehicles would prove handy. Farmers need powerful pickups that can haul trailers loaded with merchandise. Long distance travelers and taxis would do better with hybrids. Construction machines would work best with diesel, So, it is still not yet time to park all the traditional fuel automotive.
